10/14 FLU SHOT CLINIC UPDATE

We have secured 500 doses of seasonal vaccine for tomorrow's clinic so we will be open as planned from 2:30- 8:00.

We typically give less than that number at any one clinic but due to the delay in shipping from the manufacturer we could experience a larger volume and could conceivably give out all of that allotment before 8PM. We will stay as long as we have vaccine to give or 8PM whichever comes first.

We have also received a 200 dose allotment of H1N1 vaccine in the form of the nasal mist only. This will also be available at the clinic tomorrow.

Please review the previous posting dated October 4th for those that are eligible for this form of the vaccine. Basically, your child needs to be healthy and over 2. Please be sure that you qualify for this vaccine before coming. We will not have access to your chart to make that determination at the clinic. The biggest question is regarding asthma and wheezing history since that is so prevalent in this age group. If you have ever been told your child has asthma or Reactive Airway Disease, you should wait for the injectable form. If your child has ever been on inhalers or a nebulizer, you should wait for the injectable. If your child is less then 5 and had an event of wheezing in the past year that was diagnosed as Bronchiolitis, you should wait for the injectable form. Again the number of doses available are limited and we will continue to give as long as our supply last.

Whenever there is a limited supply of vaccine at anytime it puts a big demand on doses that are available. We feel that the shortages are temporary and hopefully soon to be resolved. We want to make available what we do have in as timely fashion as possible so that is why we are offering the H1N1 at tomorrow's clinic. We appreciate everyone's patience as we continue to work diligently on your children's behalf to provide the prevention they deserve.
