Current Vaccine Recommendations

Please bookmark and review this update page weekly for changes in our schedule for flu shot clinics as we try to accommodate the administration of the H1N1 Vaccine as soon as it becomes available.

Estimated availabilty of the H1N1 Vaccine is mid October. Seasonal flu vaccine is available now!

Pertinent to our patient population is that the initial supply will be reserved for those considered high risk for complications of the H1N1 flu. The high risk group includes the following:
  • All children 6 months of age and older all the way up to age 24.
  • Anyone caring for a child less then 6 months of age should be immunized as well.
  • Pregnant women. Although we most likely will not be immunizing anyone other then enrolled patients within the practice it is highly recommended that all pregnant women be immunized as well. Realize that this will also provide protection for your newborn in that the baby will receive all of your protection offered by the vaccine.

It has also been strongly recommended that everyone in those same risk groups get seasonal influenza vaccine as soon as possible.

The two can be given together in separate injections. As of this date, it is unsure who will need 2 doses of the H1N1 vaccine and who will be protected from just a single dose. With seasonal flu vaccine, anyone getting their first dose under the age of 9 years needs two doses for full protection and this may well be the case for the H1N1 vaccine. Any infant that received just one dose of 08/09 seasonal flu vaccine will need two doses this year.
